I am planning on transfering my computer animation onto super8 k40. Any suggestions on the best frame rate and camera settings. I am going to use my 7008 to shoot off of my LCD panel. Thanks

i would suggest a setting of 5.6 if you can, and a 1-1 ratio. you may have to live with whatever light your monitor puts out depending on your shutter speed at single frame. with K40 you have limitations because of film speed...

as an after thought, you want to consider the sound track. if you have created a sound track for your animation, with a computer, keep in mind sound film runs at 24 fps.

If your camera will shoot at 6 frames per second, I would avoid using the LCD panel and would, instead, shoot off a well adjusted CRT (video monitor). What you would want to do is export a version of your animation that runs at one quarter speed. Then, by running your camera at 6fps, you are able to achieve several things:

    1) The image will be much sharper than off an LCD panel.

    2) You will have plenty of light for shooting on K40 since the shutter duration will be longer and CRT's are brighter than LCD panels anyway.

    3) 6fps will totally negate the roll-bar that normally results from shooting off a CRT because the scan rate of the monitor is super fast compared to the shutter duration.

Since your animation is playing at one quarter speed and you're shooting at one quarter speed, the final speed will be correct when it plays back on film. Your image will be bright and sharp with zero flicker. If you do this, you want to make sure you use the longest telephoto focal length that's convenient for you as that will give you a flatter field and counter the slight curve of the television screen. Room lights off, of course. I know this all sounds arcane but the end results will be much better than an LCD panel.

I made good expieriences with PC-animations on K40, transfering them in single frame mode, camera at 4 fps (to avoid flicker and to obtain sufficient exposure) and with conversion filter, tube monitor at max contrast and brightness, stop setting with the help of a test screen containing an equal color/contrast pattern. With resolution higher than S8 can register (over 1000 pixel), no screen structure will be visible. The room must be darkend.

Thanks for the advice. I have shot a test off my apple laptop screen. I will try and do it on a CRT monitor nad compare the differnces. I shot it on single frame mode. I hope it turns out OK. I can't wait to project my computer animations for my friends.
